Louder Pipes for 92 Vulcan 500

I would love to make my Vulcan 500 a little louder and make it rumble a little more but don't know what I have to go through. Will I need to rejet the carbs? If I don't rejet them what would happen? Does anyone know what would be a good type of muffler for this bike? Thanks for your help.
